Monster Hunter Wilds
Developed by Capcom, Monster Hunter Wilds is a next-generation action RPG that expands the beloved Monster Hunter formula with a massive, seamless world, dynamic ecosystems, and deeply strategic hunting gameplay. Players step into the role of a professional hunter exploring an untamed frontier filled with powerful creatures, shifting environments, and valuable resources to craft increasingly stronger gear.
Designed for both newcomers and veterans, the game blends cinematic scale with skill-based combat, rewarding preparation, timing, and mastery of unique weapon classes.
Gameplay
Monster Hunter Wilds delivers the core experience fans expect—tracking, battling, and carving monsters—while enhancing immersion and player freedom:
Strategic Hunting Mechanics: Track monsters through evolving environments, study their behavior, and exploit weaknesses using specialized weapons and equipment.
Skill-Based Combat System: Every encounter demands positioning, timing, and knowledge of attack patterns rather than button-mashing.
Deep Crafting & Progression: Gather materials to forge weapons, armor sets, and builds tailored to specific monsters and playstyles.
Solo & Co-Op Multiplayer: Take on quests alone or team up with friends for coordinated hunts and faster progression.
This loop of hunt → craft → upgrade → repeat remains the heart of the experience, now refined for a more seamless and immersive flow.
Additions to combat
- Focus Mode:
Allows you to carefully aim your attacks or guards.
Use Focus Mode to attack or guard in the direction the camera is facing, and also highlight any wounds or weak points on the monster - Focus Strike:
Special attacks available during Focus Mode—Focus Strikes will deal massive damage when connecting with a wound or weak point.
Hitting a wound with a Focus Strike will destroy the wound, dealing massive damage and stunning the monster. - Power Clash:
A struggle between hunter and monster that occurs when blocking certain attacks.
Succeeding in pushing the monster back will knock it off balance, giving you an opening to attack. - Offset Attacks:
Hitting a monster with certain attacks as it is attacking will cause the attacks to clash, knocking the monster off balance.
Offset Attacks can also be followed up with powerful unique attacks. - Wounds::
By attacking a monster continuously in one spot, you can open up a Wound. There are three levels to a Wound: a Tear, then an Open Wound after further attacks, and finally a Scar after the Wound is destroyed.
Attacking a Wound will increase damage, and landing a Focus Strike will destroy the Wound in one go.
Once a wound is destroyed each player will recieve a monster material. - Seikret:
Seikret are mountable creatures that use their impressive mobility to provide navigational support.
Although Seikret do not attack when you engage with monsters, they will help you track the monsters and escape from combat. - Hook Slinger:
The Slinger returns once more and like before it can be used to fire a variaty of ammo. It can also be used to gather materials and interacting with environmental traps.
During the underwater fight with Lagiacrus the slinger can also be used to grab onto its body for a followup attack. - Weapon Switching:
The Player can now take two weapons into a hunt, and can swtich between them by mounting their Seikret. - Armor & Weapon Decorations:
Decoratios have seen a change and are now split into two catagories: Armor and Weapon Decoration. You will need to keep an eye out for these changes as you now have to carfully plan what to put where.
Changes to multiplayer
- Lobbies:
Lobbies can now host up to 100 players that can be interacted with in the various camps and grand hub. Once you go out into the field you can no longer see them unless you form a party.
Squads:
Squads allows up to 50 members and can be used to make it easier for regular hunting groups to play together.
With squads, you can set up members-only lobbies or post messages to a squad chat that persists even after you log out. - Link Party:
A Link party can have up to 4 players and makes it great to play with a set group.
Members of your link party will be notified once a quest is posted and give you the option to join in.
Link Parties stay together after returning from a quest, making it easier to do consecutive quests together - Environment Link:
Environment Links allow Link Party members to join another members hunting field.
This is great if you wish to gather resourses together or stay and hunt in one location without the need to go back.
If you want to hunt in a diffrent location the Environment Link will have to be setup once more. - SOS Signal::
SOS Signal returns once again and allows you to invite other players to join your hunt.
Depending on your settings you can also have it so that Support Hunters now your hunt instead.
At the Quest Counter you can search for other players who send out their SOS Signals. - Crossplay:
Hunters can now play together regardless of their chosen platform.
No longer are you unable to play with a friend because of the console choice. All hunters are now connected.
